@mycya4me So I don’t need the extra degrees on the thermometer! My brother’s quote the jokester; I told my mother I was tired of being hot and he said “Oh, like Paris Hilton?” Yeah, hardeehar, just like her. Right.
Found out they’re doubling the price on my storage unit. I’ve been using it since April. There was an introductory 2 month discount but now they’re doubling beyond the original monthly rate. Don’t trust US Storage Centers
@hpph Yeah, same issues with CubeSmart here. There is a shortage of units within the city limits
and they’re playing full-on supply-and-demand capitalism.
At those prices, among hundreds, they don’t mind a few empty units; and anyway, they’ll give a hefty introductory rate for a while to fill those.
I’ve run into several people who were consolidating their units.
Do-it-yourself industrial shelving is your friend. I’ve put in several.
Insult to injury, they try to tack on an insurance charge monthly if you don’t have it covered under a homeowner’s policy.
Their ROI is probably higher than a VC’s.
@hpph@Tadlem43 Wish I could put in a lockable shed but we’re in a townhouse so no go. The rates here have gone up $5 - $10/month every 6 months; we’re now paying almost triple the original monthly rate for a 5x5 climate controlled space. Time to move stuff again to get ‘new space’ discounts, but Public Storage has bought out nearly every nearby location, so we can’t get new pricing from them.
@hpph@phendrick I’m getting screw in anchors and I have some pallets that I’ll use to put some OSB on it for flooring.
From what I’ve read, these are pretty sturdy and weather resistant. Guess I’ll find out!
@hpph@phendrick Sorry, I didn’t know you were a fellow member of the Hoarder’s Brotherhood.
I’ve got a 1700 sf barn to house my “collection”, comprising a varied set of woodworking machines, arc and acetylene welding/cutting sets, a derelict sports car, (3 ) motorcycles in need of TLC, a (working!) lawn tractor plus walk-behind lawnmower, a 3x11ft workbench attached to one wall plus a 4x7ft roll-around workbench, a set of reclaimed kitchen cabinets and sink+toilet waiting to be installed in the barn, 3 large 3-tiered industrial shelving units (full o’stuff), plus other misc materials and detritus scattered about.
One of my ongoing retirement projects is to separate the wheat from the chaff and bring some semblance of order to the chaos.
@hpph@macromeh That collection sounds more like TOOLS and good stuff than ordinary junk.
P.S. If you are newly retired, you’ll wonder what happened to all that new-found time you had been expecting.
@hpph@phendrick Well, out of embarrassment I gave short shrift to the worst of the mess in my description.
But yeah, a couple years into retirement I am noticing the lack of that elusive “free time”.
Where I live, there is ZERO HOA! So if I need more storage space, I either go buy a shed or build one! Soon I will be putting up a Ham Radio antenna, a huge NONO with a HOA!
Sales are slow, after all these years my husband STILL doesn’t understand the best time to water and will walk away without setting a timer or checking how it’s going.
Yesterday I walk out back and the sprinkler is watering a good portion of the cement patio. Our last water bill was crazy, $600 for two months. A couple of weeks ago he watered the plants in our entry way and forgot about (left the water on). For hours. The yard (which is just dirt at this point, the front yard has no grass) still damp.
I know the trees need water, so no complaints there, but come on…use your head about the non-tree watering.
So, I am not a fan of this weather and our hot months utility bills.
@lisaviolet i’m sure you probably know, but they do make hose / sprinklers attached to hose timers - set and forget. sounds like hubs has the second half down anyway
@dptalia Ouch. Need a link to Casemates?
(I still have a coupon but don’t think it transfers.
Probably not much better than the std VMP discount anyway.)
@phendrick yeah, it’s not even Debby for me. Debby hasn’t reached us yet, but we’ve had storms every other day for the last two weeks… we’re already experiencing mild flooding in places and now Debby is coming to be a downer.
A fairly major road near me got washed out today and is now closed. This is our starting point BEFORE the remnants of Debby hits us. I imagine things will be worse much in 24 to 48 hours with Debby approaching.
Meh
@cengland0 exactly. why is this never an option
It blows.
@yakkoTDI Around here, the wind has been calm. I’m still waiting for a gust.
Meh, on average.
Too damn hot and too many fires burning nearby.

@Kyeh but we know you are “Hot Stuff” hehehe
@Kyeh i don’t mind the hot, but the fires suck

@hpph Definitely an issue for our GOAT. Blame!
@hpph I just bought a storage tent. I’m going to set it up in my back yard and stop paying for my storage unit. They are such a ripoff!

@hpph @phendrick Maybe you could sell off the stuff in storage to make the unit more affordable?
@hpph @macromeh SELL stuff??
That would probably violate terms in my Meh agreement, not to mention my Hoarder’s Oath.
@hpph @Tadlem43 Cool mc. What model? Looks like my 1200 Sportster.
That tent would blow away from my yard.

It’s fucking hot!

@catthegreat Ordered two! One for front yard, one for back. I had no idea about these.
Thanks!
@catthegreat The timers got here yesterday. I put the box on his desk last night. He opened it this morning, “what are these?” and I explained.
A few hours later he came in and told me the timer works as it should, he likes it (he’s only gotten one set up so far).
I went with a basic timer, not digital, because it would be easier for him to work with.
@lisaviolet this makes me happy! hope it all works better for you both.
Not liking how the stock market is down.
Worst is losing my meh streak.
@Salanth I bought a few shares of Disney earlier this year for $118. Not a lot, but just damn! It was $85 this morning.
Total knee replacement a month ago. I can’t sleep more that a couple of hours and I ache.
@dptalia Ouch. Need a link to Casemates?

Wet.
about to get wetter.
@OnionSoup Looks like “Debby Does
DallasDaytona” wasn’t (so far, per what I saw on news) as bad as first feared. How’d your area fare?@OnionSoup Florida?
@yakkoTDI @llangley You guys are getting hit hard, it looks like?
@Kyeh Not that hard where I am at.
@yakkoTDI Oh, good.
@phendrick yeah, it’s not even Debby for me. Debby hasn’t reached us yet, but we’ve had storms every other day for the last two weeks… we’re already experiencing mild flooding in places and now Debby is coming to be a downer.

@OnionSoup Keeping all of you in my prayers.
Time to put all those Meh chargers, backup generators, towels (?), etc. to practical use.
